Stroll down the garden paths and sample the fresh fruit and products from the orchards.
Hike through the vineyards and surrounding area
Hike through the private vineyards of Kinsterna and along the footpaths in the surrounding area. Our vineyards will reveal their secrets as hikers enjoy the natural environment and stunning views. The ruins of a fort dating back to the Hellenistic period (250 BC) are waiting to be discovered atop a hill behind the mansion. If the mood strikes, take a hike up the green hills and slopes surrounding the property, or down towards the sea. The E33 European hiking path, which connects Kinsterna and the picturesque village of Koulentia is nearby. Request a map and light snack from Reception and revel in the magic of the Greek countryside, where the splendour of nature unfolds before your eyes.
Enjoy a horse or donkey ride
Horseback riding on the estate is a truly wonderful experience. Visitors can also ride in our traditional horse-drawn carriage and savour the mansion and the view, or opt for a unique outing on of our donkeys.
Adopt a tree
Guests choosing to celebrate an important life event at Kinsterna, such as a wedding or baptism, will create unique memories and forge a lifetime emotional bond with the mansion! A symbolic action that will further strengthen your ties with the estate is to plant a seedling olive tree, whose centuries-old nature symbolises fertility, protection and immortality. The planting will take place on a specially designed terrace on the estate, and you will receive a Certificate of Adoption. Our experienced staff will nurture the tree and will undertake to keep you informed of its development, sending you a photograph each year, as well as a bottle of extra virgin olive oil and a jar of olives, if desired.
Cycling on the estate
Enjoy the natural environment while cycling around the estate and the green hills surrounding it. Kinsterna offers bikes for this very purpose. The picturesque castle town of Monemvasia is just 7 kilometres away, and part of the route runs alongside the sea, making the journey a pleasant one.
Our private wine tasting sessions in the wine cellar or on the terrace will delight amateurs and connoisseurs alike. Learn about the local varieties of grapes and their characteristics, experience new bouquets and sample the finest wines in the region, including both Kinsterna wines and the Malvasia variety wine, renowned for its exceptional quality since 1340 AD. Experts also offer tips on serving and selecting the right wine for the meal during the tasting.
Baking country bread
Learn how our local village baker sifts and kneads traditional bread dough by hand. Help her bake bread in the old stone oven or watch how she artfully creates hot, sumptuous loaves of bread while sipping a Greek coffee. Adventurous bakers are invited to participate in the process and help knead some local ingredients, such as oregano, olives or raisins, into the loaves of bread.
Enjoy authentic Mediterranean dishes
Embark on a journey of flavours with the Chef de Cuisine of the mansion. The old stone oven and a variety of ingredients from our very own gardens will feature in this culinary experience. You will even have a chance to walk around the estate with the Chef himself to choose what goes into your meal. Then it’s time to sit down and savour the unique dishes you helped prepare.
Visit the Kinsterna boutique and experience the art of weaving
Kinsterna private label products at the wonderful boutique-weaving room located in the heart of Monemvasia are guaranteed to catch the eye. The loom was once an integral component of traditional households. Our local weaver will introduce you to this rare art. Visitors are welcome to try weaving on the loom and create their own designs and patterns, while woven pieces designed exclusively for Kinsterna guests are available for purchase.
Our antique shop
Many old materials, such as handmade iron doors, lanterns, furniture and decorative objects belonging to the owners were incorporated into the restoration of the mansion. Part of this collection, as well as a variety of other pieces, are on display in the Kinsterna antique shop. Each piece has a little story to tell and visitors have the opportunity to acquire unique souvenirs!
