Kinsterna Hotel commemorates the long history of the legendary "Monemvasia-Malvasia' wine and invites you to experience a specially designed event on August 9th.
Monemvasia is the birthplace of this legendary wine, which was first produced before the 13th century and remained popular in markets of both East and West for four centuries. Unfortunately, the occupation of Monemvasia by the Turks in 1645, resulted in the destruction of the vineyards so that the Monemvasia wine disappeared from the region. Since then, a number of notable individuals have become involved in efforts to revive it. The most recent and ultimately successful attempt at a comeback, began 17 years ago and on 23 July 2010, 'Monemvasia-Malvasia' wine was granted official PDO status as a sweet white wine made from sun dried grapes.
On August 9th, our guests will have the opportunity to sample the wine, detect its rare characteristics and travel back in time, learing more about its fascinating history.
During the event, a live acoustic session of old-time classic Greek sounds, by the conductor and pianist Dimitris Pantos, will create a unique atmosphere around the impossing Byzantine cistern of the mansion.
